Report University closed for snow emergency at 12:30pm. Campus bus service continued and provided best means of getting around as roads were not in great shape. We opened Japes at 3:30pm for anyone interested in skiing, snowshoeing, or sledding around the area. Don contributed chili and cornbread while Rima provided hot chocolate to serve to people coming in and out from trips. We made use of the new wood-burning stove which proved too noisy, but very capable of heating the lounge. With a replacement fan it should work nicely.

Activities club members took part in: several groups went x-c skiing around and on Beebe Lake, which is completely frozen over. Others took sleds or downhill skis and brought them back later (we will not speculate as to where they went except to assume they followed all applicable rules).

Several new members joined the club, including a several who were looking for sleds but instead settled for xc skis after we ran out of sleds. XC skiing outside was tough as the snow was very soft and deep.

John, Andy, Rima, Kara, and Ari successfully made a quinzhee -- snowshelter dug out from a pile of snow. Rima and Ari slept in it part of the night before going into Japes because of the cold.

Don also brought a projector with several outdoor-oriented films, although none of those who showed were interested to watch films after a long day of playing in the snow.
