Welcome to:

The Cornell Outing Club

The Cornell Outing Club is one of the oldest student organizations at Cornell. Collegiate Outing Clubs form a rich history; we offer students the chance to develop outdoors skills, leadership experience, and form lifetime bonds, all in an environment of mutual help and assistance. Membership is only $7 per semester for undergraduate students ($10 per semester for others), and there is no club charge for any trips: participants merely share costs of food, transportation, and any incidental fees. The club has a large collection of gear, and this is all available to members at no charge on official club trips.

Meetings occur every Tuesday evening 7:30 pm at Japes Lodge on Beebe Lake. You can sign up to be a member at any of the weekly meetings.

Let us help you make an adventure happen.

Boating on Beebe Lake

Come canoing and kayaking on Beebe Lake. Pre-meeting paddling is from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM every Tuesday, weather permitting. Watch the mailing list for more information if the weather seems uncertain.

You do not need to be a member of the club to do this for the first time -- it is entirely free. We ask that you do join the club if you want to paddle a second week. Membership is $7 for undergrads and $10 for everyone else.

If you would like to kayak, then you should wear a bathing suit and be prepared to do a "wet exit" the first time. Bring a change of clothes and a towel.

How We Work

The Outing Club works on a very simple basis: members participate in and lead trips. Any member can organize a trip, subject to criteria defined by club chairs in the various activities. Any member can participate in a club trip, up to the limit defined by the organizer of the trip and the criteria defined by the trip leader.

Trips are organized at all levels of expertise from beginner to expert. One becomes proficient through practice with one's peers. Our goal is to help every club member learn from each other.

We sponsor trips involving backpacking, rock and ice climbing, telemark, XC, and downhill skiing, summer and winter mountaineering, flat and white-water kayaking and canoeing, field wildlife and plant identification, caving, mountain and road cycling, and any other activity involving exploration and appreciation of the natural world we live in.
