Cornell Outing Club Meeting Minutes: Sept. 25th, 2007
Go on a trip! It's a great way to de-stress!
Announcements:
Gear Night: Thursday 5:00 – 6:00pm at Japes, Tom.
Tomorrow (9/26) Japes will be hosting a Wilderness Medicine Conference (the portion in Japes focusing on safety while sea kayaking). This will be from about 2:30 to 5pm (email Ashley for exact details…). Anyone interested in attending (there are 3 slots) should contact Ashley at
ane23@cornell.edu.
Elections were held and
Rowan Gaffney was (unanimously!) elected vice president.
We got the results of the budget. We were funded for everything except tele-boots, for a total of $8329.88 (including the $2500 canoe/kayak trailer)!
The Hammond Hill Cabin is now fixed up and in great shape to go hangout/camp in!
Contact Matt if you'd like to do a pre-meeting presentation, or have any suggestions for topics to cover. You don't have to have gone on a crazy climbing trip to Europe! Anything outdoorsy and it's an option.

Building the Climate Movement, a free presentation/talk by author, educator, and environmentalist Bill
McKibben?. 7:00pm, Wednesday 9/26 (tomorrow) in the Call Auditorium in Kennedy Hall.
Trips That Were:
Dan R. and I (Nena) went sea kayaking on Cayuga this past Saturday. We both ended up quite crisped by the sun...
Sourish and Maria biked to Interlaken where they ate ice-cream. Sourish reached speeds of 38mph on his mountain bike.
Peggy and Ben went climbing and their car got stuck.
Jeanine and Kyle climbed Wallface mountain.
Rayko and Leslie went climbing in the Adirondacks.
Matt, Rima, Bill, Frederick, and Ari went to the Hammond Hill cabin in the Cornell Plantations and cleaned it up so now anyone can use it!
Matt led a bird walk around Beebe Lake for an hour before the meeting. He'll be doing this again in the future, so look out for his emails. We have binoculars and bird books that you can use!
Trips That Will Be:
Jeanine will (possibly) lead a
beginner climbing trip this Sunday (9/30) to Peterskill or Little Falls. If you have experience setting up top ropes, or have a car to take more people, you should go. Email her (
jeaninemoy@gmail.com) if you're interested.
Dan and Jim are leading a
beginner/intermediate whitewater paddling trip to Route 3 in Watertown this Sunday (9/30) to surf and do some more basic stuff below the wave. Email Dan (
did4@cornell.edu) if you want to go.
Ari will be leading a
beginner canoe camping trip over fall break (10/5 – 10/9, or somewhere in there) to the Adirondacks. People with cars get precedence! Email him to go (
ate2@cornell.edu).
Brian is going
mountain biking on Sunday (9/30) afternoon. Email him to join:
btg9@cornell.edu
Brian will also be going
backpacking in the Adirondacks over fall break. Let him know if you want to come:
btg9@cornell.edu.
Sean is going
mountain biking (probably at Hammond Hill) on Thursday at 4:30pm. Email him (
sdm85@cornell.edu) if you want to go.
Post Meeting Presentation Summary:
After the meeting today, Kyle (backpacking chair) gave a presentation about his two-month-long climbing trip in Europe. He showed us awesome (and scenic) pictures of climbing in Italy, Spain, France, and Switzerland.
