Upcoming trips
Whitewater
- Beth (bak34) will do whitewater kayaking on the Black River on 8/21. Experience needed. If you have a car, Route 3 surfing (Watertown) is possible.
Flatwater
- Simeon's (simeon@cs.cornell.edu) Adirondacks canoe trip is overfull (there is a waiting list)
- Thursday night Sea Kayaking (6:30PM) at East Shore Sailing / East Shore Park is still ongoing. There are only two more before the end of summer. This is an informal skills development session ; contact Ben (brb4) for more details.
Trails
- John (jmp72) will do trail running, e-mail him for details. This is a regular event, see previous minutes for trip reports, typical locations.
- Jim (jgj5) and Brendan will be exploring 6 Mile Gorge on Thursday or Friday. The pace will be somewhere between walking and running.
Caving
- OTR, a big caving fest, will occur on Labor Day Weekend. Some as yet undetermined contingent of COC cavers will attend. They'll probably do some caving. "Some [other] caving may occur". For details and explanation of that cryptic statement, contact the caving people.
Other
- Jim (jgj5) wants to do something this weekend, maybe climbing (needs someone with lead experience) or backpacking. He has a car. E-mail him with suggestions.
- Herdis still wants a Mt. Hood beta.

Radical Reels
We are co-sponsoring Radical Reels. The first showing is on 8/22 8:30-11:30PM. Brendan (bsk25) is organizing the work session. He needs 7 volunteers to come at 7PM to help usher, and do setup. Volunteers get worksession credit ; 1/2 price tickets.
There will be a second showing on 9/23 ; details on COC worksession will be posted as they become available.
Dragonboat festival in Queens
As announced previously on the Listserv, Theodor (
brasovet@mail.lepp.cornell.edu) is going to Queens on Friday to race on the dragonboating team in the dragonboating festival (
http://www.hkdbf-ny.org). Contact him for details.
Boating
We have two new whitewater boats! An I3 (small person boat) and a Beast (big person boat). We hope to organize kayak polo during pre-meeting paddling at some point.
Recurring unicycling with FLOW at North Campus basketball courts, near Hasbrouk (Jessup Ct). Mondays at 6PM. Brendan will announce these trips if he plans to attend.
Trips past
- JohnP? climbed at the Gunks for the first time on Sunday and Monday with Jess, Tammy, and Jim. He went to the West Traps, and had a lot of fun. He wants to go again (needs a leader).
- Brendan went on a trip to Watertown, and played at Route 3, a wave which was just recently restored. He did lots of surfing on waves. Pictures are available at http://pine.psych.cornell.edu/pics/index.php?currDir=./Cornell/route_3_pics
- Brendan unicycled on Monday with COC and FLOW people. This week was a skills session.
- Daniel and Jim attended a water rescue course at the Potomac in Maryland. They watched many videos, kayaked, and did swift water rescues. Jim says there's another one coming up in Vermont by the same guy.
- Kara went caving in Knox (Maine).
- Brendan did suburban sport climbing.
- Kara exhibited some excellent caving art at Simeon's party on Monday. Caving photos also featured.
- Leslie climbed in the southern Adirondacks, at "Goodluck Cliff", several 5.7-5.11, top-ropable climbs (thumbs up), and at "Echo Cliff".
- Jason led a beginner climbing trip at Little Rock (top-roped); Theodor, Corrina, Jared, and Alana. The black rocks were burning hot due to southern exposure to sun.
