June 20, 2006 Meeting Minutes

Announcements

Beth reports that the Salmon River will be releasing for all of July at 600-1000cfs, kayak trips to come...

Kara announces presence of caving Elephants in Africa. For more details, ask Kara on days with a y in them.

Trips That Were

Backpacking trip in the Adirondacks including start at 11pm, 3 mile bushwhack, 30 miles total in 40 hours, some of them asleep. Healthy variety of insects including black flies, no-see-ums, mosquitos, horse flies, dear flies, and manic mating moths.

Leslie and Adrian lead a beginner climbing trip (3 newbies, 5 intermediates) to the Adirondacks. Deadwater one day and the Beer Walls the other, swimming in Chapel Pond. By way of variety Leslie avoided the easy and well trodden trail to the Beer Walls but instead selected a wild bushwhack over yonder hill and dale to finally approach the Beer Walls via Chapel Pond Canyon, a full 90 minutes entertainment as opposed to the usual 10.

Matt lead himself on a bike trip on Saturday from Japes to Ludlowville in beastly hot weather.

Kira ran in the great Adirondack Hill Run and won her age division.

Kara took a hiking trip in the Laurel Highlands.

Trips That Shall Be

FOOD: On Saturday Don will lead a strawberry picking trip to a local farm, followed by pie-making (he will not, however, play Zoe Lewis' very fine rendition of "Pies for the People" because it is non-music). don@astro.cornell.edu

CAMPING: Matt (mcl28) will lead a local camping trip this weekend. He is open to suggestions of places.

CANOE: Greg and Ari will lead a canoe trip to Cranberry Lake this weekend. Beautiful place, rocks to jump from, swimming, eating, camping... Contact both ate2 and glh25.

TRAIL RUNNING: Kira (kdn22) will lead a local trail running trip this weekend, about 13 miles.

FLATWATER KAYAKING: Mitch (gunes@yahoo.com) wants companions for local flatwater kayaking, anywhere, any day.

ROCK CLIMBING: Don invites all to the usual rock climbing and bouldering gathering at his house after the meeting.

Respectfully submitted, Sid.
