Cornell Outing Club Meeting Minutes: Jan. 29th 2008
Announcements:
* Gear Night: Thursday 7-8pm with Ari
* Banff Mountain Film Festival is coming to Cornell on February 22nd. Club members get the discounted price of $10. If you're not a member, come to a meeting or gear night to sign up, or just pay the regular price: $12 for CU Students, $15 for others. Stop by this weeks Gear Night (see above) to get your ticket.
* At this week's Gear Night, Ari will be hosting a little hot-chocolate party over a burning stove. Come hang out and help clean up Japes for an hour! It'll be cozy.
* Want to learn how to tune your own skis? Come to our meeting in two weeks: Feb 12th at 7:30pm at Japes. Just come and watch Leslie tune a pair of skis, or bring your own and try it yourself. If you'd like to bring your own skis, please RSVP to
leslie@alternatives.org so we can make sure there are enough tools for everyone!
* Anyone interested in helping organize a COC/COE Telemark Skiing Festival (Tele-Fest!) at Greek Peak, email Brad:
bpl24@cornell.edu.
* Bats in Albany area caves have recently been infected with "white nose," a fungus that seems to be killing them. What does this mean for outing clubbers? Some caving (vertical) can't happen anymore, and trips will have to be limited to one cave per day. More info from caving chairs soon!
* This Saturday, Feb. 2nd, is the Tug Hill Tourathon (XC skiing!). 8 - 50 Km courses. Go here for more info:
http://www.winonaforest.com/skiers.html.
* There will forever be telemark gear for sale. Email Leslie (
leslie@alternatives.org) if you're interested.
* It's a new semester, and we need post-meeting presenters! Show other people how cool you are with slideshows or movies from your outdoor adventures. Come teach us essential (or not so essential) outdoor skills! Email Matt (
mstillerman@gmail.com).
* February 29th - March 3rd: Avalanche Fundamentals course at Holiday Valley for $40. Email Sean (
mooresnow@gmail.com) for more info and/or a place to crash!
* Phew... last announcement: we have a new mission statement! See "preamble":
