Paddling! Cayuga Lake Hole and Letchworth
Friday we had a small crew who came to the Cayuga Lake Hole and
practiced peel-outs, ferries, wet exits, and rolls in moving water.

Saturday a crew of ELEVEN drove all the way out to Letchworth Gorge
and spent the drizzly day paddling and playing on the Genessee River:
Peter, Andy, Brian, Alex A, Chase, Brendan, Alan, Eric, Alex D, Anja, and Steph.

(I find it interesting that the GPS could not find the satellites in
some places where the gorge is so deep.)
We ran the whole thing all the way to St. Helena's, playing in the
little surf waves, practicing rolls and wet exits, and tossing around
the little soccer ball found on a previous trip to Cayuga Lake.
Alan impressed us with his kayak polo skills (he's recruiting for
winter pool sessions BTW, so if anyone is interested contact him at
alan.lamb3@gmail.com), and the group spent a long time playing at
Lunch Rock, with people trying to catch the ball while surfing in the
hole there.
Just because he could, Eric styled one of our vintage boats; I think
it was a Dancer. And he surfed that thing within an inch of it's
long, purple life.
Anja enjoyed her first day back on a river since before her shoulder
surgery in the beginning of May.
Andy amused us with his fixation on Burger King and his hand rolls at
the takeout.
Alex D hooted in happiness periodically, which helped keep us awake.
Steph surfed that hole at Lunch Rock in a creek boat quite nicely,
thankyouverymuch.
Everyone seemed to have fun (which is the most important part about
paddling) and improved in skills (which is important in order to have
MORE fun). It was a lovely day full of delinquency and mayhem.
Pictures from Alex D will be forthcoming.
We'd love to hear reports from other folks who came along!
