Come to Japes beginning at 5:30 pm, and hang with club members prior to our regular weekly meeting
(7:30 pm). Enjoy a burger (or veggie burger) with new outdoorsy friends! Check out and drool over
our cool gear. Best of all, make plans to go outside and PLAY!
Backpacking and hiking

hiking day trip, Sunday Sept 11
Hammond Hill State Forest. Meet at Japes at 9:30am. Leave for HHSF promptly at 10 am. Will return
to campus by around 4:30 pm. Bring food and water, raingear if there is a chance of rain, appropriate
footwear. RSVP; tell Matt whether you have a car and how many it can hold.

Biking

beginner-friendly bike trip, Sunday Sept 18
Meet at Japes at 10am. We'll do a moderate, 20 mile ride. Bring the usual equipment: pump, patch
kit or spare tube, and plenty of water. Helmet mandatory. Proposed route:

Japes, and demonstrate how to use it.

Paddling

weekly Beebe Lake paddling sessions
Each Tuesday spring through fall, weather permitting, there is an open paddling session on Beebe Lake
from 5:30 to 7:00, prior to our club meeting. Learn kayak rolling and other whitewater skills, or take
out a canoe and explore the lake. Continues until end of daylight savings time.

Beginner kayaking on Cayuga Lake, Sunday Sept 11
We will teach basic kayak paddling techniques, check out Stewart and Cass Parks from the lake, and
have lunch at one of the parks (bring your own lunch and/or share with everyone). No experience is
required, but you should be comfortable being on a big open lake. Six spaces; $10 deposit to hold a
space (refunded after the trip).

Intermediate and advanced whitewater kayaking, Oct 14-16
Moosefest, Lyons Falls, NY

possibly the Lower Moose (IV) and/or other nearby waterways (Fish, Woodhull, etc.). Drytop and
wetsuit or drysuit mandatory. Must have a solid roll; talk with trip leader your skills/experience.

Caving
At present, there is very little caving going on in the northeast, due to White Nose Syndrome, which has
decimated bat populations, and the possibility that caving may have been a factor in its spread. COCs caving
program has been on hiatus as a result, and there is no caving chair. For more information on caving and the
possibility of local caves reopening, contact the Northeast Regional Organization of the National Speleological
