COC Library Rules
Visitors may browse the library, only club members are permitted to borrow books and maps.
How to sign out a library book
- This must be done by an officer, chair or keyholder-at-large of COC who must verify that the borrower is a member.
- Each book has a card - this will generally be in the back or front of the book.
- Removed the card and fill it out with the date, borrower's name and netID (use complete email address and phone if non-Cornell).
- Place the card in the Books-Out drawer of the cardfile.
- Guidebooks should be considered akin to gear for trips and should be returned at the same time (certainly the following week). Other books are due one month from the date of loan. Books can only be renewed in person with the book present.
To return a book
- Books should be left in the In-Tray if there is no officer, chair or keyholder-at-large to sign them in.
- Do not return books to the shelf without first having them signed in.
To sign in a library book
- This must be done by an officer, chair or keyholder-at-large of COC who must verify that the borrower is a member.
- When someone returns a library book it must be signed in before being returned to the shelf.
- Find the card for the book in in the Books-Out drawer of the cardfile.
- Write the date returned in the appropriate place on the card and return the card to the sleeve inside the back or front cover of the book.
- Carefully reshelve the book in the appropriate section. Within each section books are arranged alphabetically but the author's last name.
- If a book is overdue, comment on such to the borrower.
