Activity Chairs

The duties of the Activity Chairs (Currently Backpacking, Biking, Boating, Caving, Climbing, Winter Sports, Gorge Clean-up, Library)

  1. with regards to Trips shall be to
    • Advise trip leaders, and make sure trip leaders know their responsibilities in safety, administration, and leadership
    • Encourage people to lead trips, within their capabilities
    • Role model safety in your activity
    • Check on the trip reports file and remind other trip leaders to file their trip reports
  2. with regards to Equipment shall be to
    • Maintain equipment inventory, and submit a copy of it once per semester or as requested by the executive committee
    • Check the sign out sheets once per month for comments or needs
    • Make occasional checks of critical equipment, and mark faulty equipment as such, or destroy equipment when needed
    • Maintain the working condition of equipment through work sessions or other methods
    • Create the budget requests as required by the Treasurer
    • Purchase equipment according to budget alloted
  3. with regards to Leadership shall be to
    • Orient successor to the position
    • Attend advisory board meetings and participate in the group's initiatives
    • Hold a club key, and be available as appropriate to issue gear and do business.

The Responsibilities of particular activity chairs

  • specifically Biking, shall be to
    • Make sure that trip leaders know that trip participants must wear helmets
  • specifically Boating, shall be to
    • Maintain the rope across Beebe Lake
    • Make sure that trip leaders know that trip participants in kayaking must have done a wet exit before going on a trip
  • specifically Climbing, shall be to
    • Make checks of critical equipment such as ropes and harnesses, and destroy equipment when needed
  • specifically Gorge Clean Up, shall be to
    • Note that responsibilities under the second catagory above (Equipment) do not apply
    • Ensure compliance with the contract between COC and Cornell Plantations to clear the trails in Cascadilla and Fall Creek gorges
    • File reports of the clean-ups with Hal Martin of the Cornell Plantations
    • Maintain and keep inventory of the tools loaned to COC by the Plantations
  • specifically Library, shall be to
    • Note that responsibilities under the first catagory above (Trips) do not apply
    • Oversee sign out system. Follow up with people who need to return materials
    • Keep library up to date and recycle old materials
